How to Print Directly from Your iPhone or Android
You received a concert ticket or a PDF in your email on your phone. Instead of forwarding it to your computer, you can send it directly to your printer. Here is how to configure mobile printing.
The Golden Rule: Same Wi-Fi Network
Before you begin, ensure your phone and your printer are connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network. If your phone is using 5G cellular data, or is connected to a "Guest" network, it will not be able to find the printer.
For iPhone & iPad Users (Apple AirPrint)
Apple devices use a built-in protocol called AirPrint. Almost all modern printers support it natively.
- Open the document, photo, or email you want to print.
- Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
- Scroll down the options menu and tap Print.
- Tap Select Printer at the top. Your iPhone will scan the local network and find your printer.
- Select your printer, adjust the number of copies, and tap Print in the top right corner.
For Android Users
Android utilizes a default print service that works similarly to AirPrint.
- Open the file or photo you want to print.
- Tap the three vertical dots (Menu) in the top right corner.
- Tap Print.
- At the top of the screen, tap the drop-down menu that usually says "Save as PDF" and choose All printers... to let Android scan your network.
- Select your printer from the list and tap the yellow/blue print icon.
Note: If Android cannot find your printer natively, you may need to download the brand's specific app (e.g., HP Print Service Plugin) from the Google Play Store to help the phone communicate with the hardware.
