The Verdict

The DeskJet 2755e offers the cheapest upfront hardware cost on our list. It is a decent option if you are on a strict budget and only print a few pages a month, but beware of the high replacement ink costs.

The Cost Trap

While the printer itself often retails for under $70, it uses tri-color ink cartridges. This means if you run out of yellow ink, you must throw away the entire color cartridge, even if it still has cyan and magenta left. If you print frequently, the cost of ink will quickly exceed the cost of the printer.

Mobile-First Setup

HP engineered this printer to be set up almost entirely via a smartphone using Bluetooth and the HP Smart app. If you prefer plugging a USB cord directly into a laptop, you will find the setup process surprisingly restrictive, as the app forces you online to activate HP+.

Pros

  • + Very low initial purchase price
  • + Basic scanning and copying included
  • + Highly compact and lightweight

Cons

  • - Tri-color cartridges waste ink and money
  • - Demands an internet connection and HP account to setup
